SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The South Euclid Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying two individuals who they say robbed two elderly people out of $18,000.
The two people pictured were involved in two separate “pigeon drop” incidents, police said.
A pigeon drop is a “a confidence game or sleight-of-hand swindle whereby cash is extracted from the victim as collateral for a supposed share in a large sum of discovered money, dishonest profits, or gambling winnings, which in fact are nonexistent,” according to dictionary.com.
The pigeon drop scheme uses a little friendliness, mixes in some trust,adds a promise of a large sum of money. The victim gives a small amount as a good faith security deposit, In the expectation of a big return.But what really happens is the scammers make off with the good faith money, and the victim is left with nothing.
